Hollywood Casinos in Ohio: Four Properties, Two Licences and Only Two Card Rooms [2026]

Penn Entertainment operates four gaming properties in Ohio under the Hollywood name, and searching for any one of them turns up the other three. That is where the confusion starts, because two of the four can deal blackjack and two of them cannot, and nothing in the branding tells you which is which. The split is regulatory. Hollywood Casino Columbus and Hollywood Casino Toledo hold commercial casino licences from the Ohio Casino Control Commission. Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway and Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course hold racino licences answering to the Ohio Lottery Commission, which permits video lottery terminals and nothing else.

The four, side by side

The two that deal cards

Columbus is the larger of the pair and the larger of anything in the state. Its floor runs to roughly 160,000 square feet, the biggest in Ohio, with more than 60 tables and a poker room of 34 tables, also the biggest in Ohio. The room runs from 10am to 4am, which leaves a six-hour overnight gap that regular players plan around. Since 12 June 2026 the property has had a hotel: a 203-room tower with suites, conference space and an outdoor terrace, which turned a day-trip floor off I-270 into somewhere you can stay. Toledo opened on 29 May 2012, a reported $320 million build, in a single large room rather than a chain of halls, which is the feature regulars mention most, and holds more than 2,000 slots with 60 tables. Its poker room is smaller at 20 tables but it is the only serious room in north-west Ohio. Where Toledo beats Columbus is the depth of its carnival game list, which is one of the widest in the state and the reason a pit player who likes something other than blackjack drives there. The two that cannot

Dayton Raceway opened on 28 August 2014 as a $250 million development with exactly 1,000 video lottery terminals and an all-weather harness track. Mahoning Valley opened three weeks later, on 17 September 2014, and reached about 1,250 terminals after a 250-machine expansion in 2015. Its one-mile oval runs thoroughbreds from October to April, a winter meet that picks up horses idle everywhere else in the north, and its SB Restaurant sits inside the sportsbook.

Neither has a blackjack table, a craps pit or a poker room, and neither ever will under its current licence. A terminal on these floors looks like a slot machine and pays like one, but it answers to the lottery rather than the casino regulator. What the four share

One rewards card works across all of them, which is the practical argument for treating the four as a set rather than four separate trips. Every Ohio casino and racino requires players to be 21, and every Ohio gaming floor is non-smoking by statute under the workplace law voters passed in 2006, a difference Toledo players notice the moment they cross into Michigan. Which one for what

We checked floor sizes, table counts, poker hours and hotel status across all four in September 2026. For tables, poker or a bed, Columbus is the best choice and it is not close: the largest floor, the largest card room and the only Hollywood hotel in the state. For a pit player who likes carnival games, Toledo is better than Columbus on variety, and its single-room layout makes a specific bank of machines easy to find. Mahoning Valley only makes sense between October and April, when the thoroughbreds run. Dayton is the smallest of the four and the one to skip unless it is the closest. If you arrive at either racino expecting a card table, you have made the most common mistake in Ohio gaming.
